Falling behind.....

Indeed I am falling behind... but only in updating my blog thank God everything else is going fine, but I'm really struggling to find the time to update this blog as regularly as I should and I'm really starting to worry about not being able to complete the marathon on the big day. Time has flown in so quickly and I can't believe there's just over 6 weeks to go to the big day. I'm just not sure if I have the legs to carry me around the 26.2 mile course but as I said before I won't stop trying until I have nothing left to give, but I am honestly starting to doubt myself and my ability to do it. I just don't know if I've done enough to see me through it all.

Anyway a quick review of what I've been up to since I last posted. Sunday we got out and did the half marathon course that we plan to do on Saturday the 23rd. We wanted to get around and see what it was like so there would be no surprises on the day and to be completely honest I struggled my way around most of it. Which really surprised me as I had no problem with the previous two 10 mile runs we had completed. I was really feeling the pain from around mile 5 and had different aches all over. Sarah however was feeling much stronger and didn't really feel the pain until around mile 10. Still I soldiered on and push all thoughts of stopping out of my mind and actually finished fairly strongly, with Sarah lagging a little behind me. Having said that my knees and hips took a bit of a beating with my knees swelling up quite a bit.

With that in mind I really didn't know if I'd make it out for our scheduled 4 mile run on Monday, but I'm so glad I did. It lashed down with rain on Monday night and I just love running in the rain, I don't exactly know why, all I know is there's no better feeling. Monday's run was my favourite run of all our training. With the rain pouring down, the park almost empty except for a few hardy souls and it just hitting twilight I was in heaven and could have run for hours.

So to Tuesday and our planned 7 mile run. I knew before we even set out that it wasn't going to be 7 miles. We'd left it too late to start and by the time we were half way round the darkness had crept in and our 7 mile run was aborted to 4 miles as we could hardly see the ends of our noses. It was far too dangerous to carry on and risk falling over and sustaining an injury for the sake of the extra 3 miles.

So we'll make up for it tomorrow when we are running back to Sarah's apartment in Cork Street from work in Blackrock, before our 15 mile run on Saturday.

Which reminds me I still have to work out a route for the long run on Saturday, I don't fancy just adding 2 mile to the half marathon course so I'll have to get cracking on a new route. I'll let you know what I come up with.

In the meantime if anyone wants a more in depth review of what we've been up to over the last week you can check out Sarah's blog at http://www.dubmarathon06.blogspot.com/

It's hard work isn't it? Just when you think you have it conquered, a poor run makes you start to rethink, and doubts spring up.

Your training has been going well, and as long as you don't get carried away with things in the first half of your race, you will survive and thrive.

Love the new profile pic, looks great.

I wouldn't worry too much about not beeing able to finish the marathon. Dublin 2004 was my first ever marathon, and my longest training run had been about 15.5 miles. I managed to finish, but had cramps all the way from mile 18. I don't recommend running as underprepared, but it's definitely possible to finish, even in those circumstances.
